About All Africa Youth Network
The All Africa Youth Network (AAYN) is a leadership platform for the National Youth leaders of the AACC member churches, and Christian councils to connect, share experiences, knowledge, and resources, and support one another as they offer leadership to the young people on the African continent. Through its Pan-African campaign on Africa: My Home. My Future, the network is playing a critical role in promoting youth participation in Church and society. This is achieved through empowering African youth to be transformational leaders who exercising their Christian agency in ways that transform Africa into the kind of continent they would like to have as a home and leave behind for the comfort of their descents: An integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in International arena.
Established in 2019, the network’s potential to transform the narrative about Africa into one that reflects the reality of the continent’s ability to be a place where every African child can grow, achieve holistic development, and flourish in all spheres of life was solidified by its maiden All Africa Youth congress held in Accra Ghana, 2022 on the theme: Africa: My Home. My Future. The congress gave birth to a large network of African Christian youth leaders convinced that the Africa We want is the Africa God wants and with this conviction, offering themselves and their resources to pursue the AU Agenda 2063 through being active agents of God’s holistic mission to the world. This synergy was further amplified by AACC’s 12th General Assembly which was organized and run in ways that made it possible for the youth to actively participate in its entire life and business, influencing the assembly decisions and shaping the future of Africa’s ecumenical movement through their submissions.
The establishment of the AAYN in 2019 emerged from the increasing acknowledgment of the significant contributions that young people make within the church and broader society. During various AACC assemblies and consultations, it became apparent that youth required a structured platform to voice their concerns, share their experiences, and participate actively in decision-making processes. The Network’s primary objectives include empowering young leaders, promoting unity and collaboration, advocating for youth-related issues, and engaging in social action. By offering training and development opportunities, the network equips young people with essential skills and knowledge for effective leadership within their communities and churches. It encourages youth from diverse backgrounds and denominations to work together, fostering a spirit of unity and mutual support.
Additionally, the AAYN focuses on advocating for pressing issues such as education, employment, health, and social justice, aiming to influence policies and initiatives that address these challenges. Through various programs and activities, the network mobilizes youth to actively participate in community development and contribute to the overall well-being of society.
As an avenue for ecumenical formation among African youth leaders, the AAYN is one of the major forums through which African young people offer leadership to Africa’s ecumenical movement. This is achieved through AACC’s various programmatic interventions aimed at promoting life, peace, justice and dignity in Africa implemented by the network members and young people within their spheres of influences such as:
- The All Africa Youth Congress Youth
- Advocacy for Tax and Economic Justice
- The Churches Campaign Against SGBV in Africa
- Interfaith Youth Forums for Peace and Social Cohesion
- Campaign for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights
- Engaging in the African Faith Actors Network for Climate Justice
- Capacity-building Initiatives for Ethical and transformative leadership
- Programmes fostering Health and healing
Operating under the broader framework of the AACC, the AAYN is coordinated by the AACC Executive Secretary, Youth. The secretary oversees the network's activities, ensuring that it remains responsive to the needs of young African-Christian people and aligned with the AACC's mission. Regular consultations and meetings facilitate ongoing engagement and strategic planning.
